” Do you really think that mere force will deny me my right little king? Aslan knows that in this, I had blood as the law demands. All of Narnia will be overturned and perish in fire and water. That boy will die on the stone table… as is tradition. You dare not to refuse me.”
As we allow the Chronicles of Narnia to help us understand the rich drama of the Love of God in the Incarnation of Jesus and His willing Sacrifice we come across the interesting narrative about a claim that the Wicked Queen had over the life of Edmund who had proven to be traitor. While the Witch didn’t know the “magic, deeper still” she did have a rightful claim on the life of Edmund (or so she thought.) This reminds us of an account in the book of Job about a backroom meeting in heaven when Satan has access to God and seems to have negotiating privileges. What was the transaction that was completed at Calvary? Which theory of atonement best explains this “deal”? Thoughts?
