There is something human about wanting to share good news with others. Perhaps it is a new picture of grandkids or a recent success story from school or work. There is a look on my friend’s face that says there is something to report – and it’s good! I wonder how many of my thoughts of what I’d like you to hear about my story would honestly be concerned with my relationship with God, though? Jeremiah cuts to the chase when he cautions against some typical topics of human boasting – wisdom, power and wealth. He advises boasting rather in knowing God and that in rich measure. He uses God’s covenant, personal name, cites His most delightful character trait (unfailing love) and actions of bringing justice and righteousness to earth with delight. These are the matters that would be raised in my rave or rant with that look in my eye and that intensity in my voice!
